It’s not always easy to know when it’s better to replace your old air conditioner or continue repairing it. Let’s look at when it’s better to install a new system instead of throwing money into the old one.
Age
Consider the age of your air conditioner. It’s a fact that air conditioners become less efficient as they grow older. Most experts agree that you should consider replacing your air conditioner if it’s over ten years old and if it’s over 15 years old, replacing it is a must.
Repair Frequency
If your air conditioner is running optimally, it shouldn’t need any major repairs; however, if you find that you’re fixing your AC more frequently as the years go on, it makes better financial sense to spring for a new system instead of sinking it into the old one.
AC Exposure
Your air conditioner sits outside every day for many years and is exposed to all of the elements. Depending on the climate where you live, this system could take a severe beating. For example, here in Montgomery, AL, we get extremes at both ends of the thermometer. The harsher the climate, the more frequently you’ll have to replace your system.
The $5,000 Rule
Many experts recommend using the $5,000 rule, which means multiplying the age of the unit with the cost of the repair. If the amount is more than $5,000, you should replace the system.
If you still don’t know which direction to go in, contact one of our expert technicians for a consultation.
When the heat arrives here in Autauga County, residents depend on having a functioning air conditioner to keep them comfortable throughout the summer months. You can avoid costly repairs and system breakdowns with routine maintenance; however, be on the lookout for the following signs that your system is failing and call for help before things get worse.
Strange Noises
It’s normal to hear your AC system kick on and to hear some ambient sounds when it’s running, but if you hear unusually loud or strange sounds like grinding, grating, or squealing, it’s a sign that something is wrong and that you’d better call for repairs sooner rather than later.
Strange Odors
Another thing to note is if strange odors are coming out of your AC. If you smell an electrical odor or an odor of something burning, there could be many things causing it, which is why the problem is best diagnosed by a pro.
Poor Airflow
Weak or insufficient airflow could be the result of a variety of issues, the simplest of which is a dirty air filter. Another problem that can lead to a reduction in airflow is if there is a blockage in the ducts.
No Cold Air
Whether the air coming out of your air conditioner is lukewarm or not as cold as it was before, it could be a thermostat issue or a refrigerant leak. If everything seems to be working with your thermostat, call a professional HVAC technician for an inspection.

It was good seeing Adam once again and he was l@@king good, slimer. Adam remembered our two Dachshunds and talked to & petting them. Adam is a great access to your company the reason being he does not leave any guess work. He (listened) & answered all my questions.
